DMP chief: Less fine for first time traffic rules violators

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam has said drivers and vehicle owners, who violate Road Transport Act 2018 for first time, will be fined less.

He made the statement in a press conference over the new traffic law implementation held at DMP office on Monday.

Stating that the first time violators will be made aware of the new rules, he said: "After one week, the new traffic rules will be fully in action."

Mentioning that some of the rules are quite strict, Shafiqul said: "People will tend to follow the rules, in fear of getting punished.

"The software to file cases is being updated, so initially, we will continue to use the analogue system.”

When asked about police, journalists and government officials getting away after breaking rules, the commissioner said:  "We will deal everyone strictly.  Traffic police, who breaks rules, will face divisional action.”
