GM Quader, chairman of a faction of the Jatiya Party, has announced that the main political opposition in the parliament, Jatiya Party has decided to hold its National Council Meeting on November 30, 2019.
It was unanimously agreed in a joint meeting attended by the party's presidium members, and members of the parliament. Quader expressed his hope that the party leaders, and activists will elect their future leadership in the upcoming National Council.
It was also suggested that the Jatiya Party candidate for the by-election in Rangpur 3 constituency is yet to be nominated. The candidate will be nominated after assessing the disposition of contenders from other parties.
GM Quader made the statement at Jatiya Party's office in Banani, Dhaka, yesterday afternoon.
"I neither do politics to secure political offices, nor to make money. Our politics is aimed at the best interests of the people, and the country. We don't participate in politics with an ulterior motive," said Quader.
Addressing the audience during the event, Chairman GM Quader stressed that Jatiya Party is a formidable political force among all the three major political parties.
Traditionally, he said Jatiya Party has considerable experience in governing the country.
"People are looking up to Jatiya Party for leadership on the back of a prevailing political void in the country. Jatiya Party has turned itself into a reliable political base for the next generation of youths of the country. Therefore, it is now a high time for the party to make itself further stronger in the race for the country's governance," said Quader.
In an effort to strengthen Jatiya Party across the country, eight organizing teams for eight divisions have been formed, he said.
Addressing the controversies surrounding the party's leadership, GM Quader said Jatiya Party has been operating in line with its constitution, and according to the vision of its founding president Hossain Mohammad Ershad.
The rift between Raushan Ershad, and GM Quader over the party leadership, and the post of Leader of the Opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad deepens after Raushan was declared JP chairperson on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Kazi Firoz Rashid, a presidium member of Jatiya Party, in his address to the party people warned that the party has withstood enormous resistance in the past, and it will thwart any kind of hostility in future.
Meanwhile, AR Ahmad Selim, a presidium member of Japa (Kazi Zafor) has officially joined Jatiya Party by presenting a flower bouquet to GM Quader at the party chairman's Banani office yesterday afternoon.
