The Student Counseling and Guidance Office of Dhaka University (DU) organized a program marking the 10th anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Foundation Bangladesh at Sir Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building in DU premises in Dhaka.
John May, secretary general of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation United Kingdom at a discussion session during the event said “the best days of this country are just ahead of it.”
Addressing the award leaders (trainers), he said: “If you put in the work in developing the skills, behavior, and attitudes of young people you can place them in the position they deserve to be.”
John May added: “It [the award] can make a transformational difference to a young person’s life; on a collective basis, it has the power to bring significant change to wider society.”
“The potential of the youth of Bangladesh is clearly yet to be realized,” May added.
Deans of faculties, directors of different wings, chairpersons, and student advisors of departments, provosts of residential halls, award coordinator, award leaders, and teachers attended the event, among others.
AK Shamsuddin Khan, chairman of the board of trustees of the foundation in Bangladesh chapter, considered the award as a tool for “development of the whole human being by providing a unique rewarding agenda that fills the gap left by formal education.”
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman, speaking as chief guest, said: “This award program is playing an important role to develop communication, and management skills as well as behavior, and attitude of the students.”
