Giving top priority to sustainable waste management, mosquito control, and welfare, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has announced a proposed budget of Tk3,057.24 crore for 2019-20 fiscal year, which is Tk313.40 crore more than the previous year.
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam revealed the information at DNCC Nagar Bhaban in Gulshan on Thursday.
DNCC Mayor said they have taken up a Tk49.30 crore project for mosquito control which is 182% higher than last year.
To meet the expenses, Mayor is expecting to earn from holding tax, Bazar salami, trade licenses, property transfers, and road digging fees.
DNCC fixed a revenue income of Tk1,106 crore, and revenue expenditure of Tk551.4 crore.
Development expenditure of Tk2,335.74 crore, and other expenses Tk12 crore.
The Mayor said, 10 development projects including Urban Resilience Project, Dhaka integrate urban development project under World Bank are now going on while another 10 projects including landfill extension, and modernization for the newly added 18 wards of DNCC will be taken up.
Under the projects, the DNCC will develop an environment-friendly, and hygienic way of collecting, transporting, and dumping garbage. There will also be resource recovery facilities.
They are spending Tk24.83 crore for building 11 U-turns from Satrasta (Tejgaon) to House Building area (Uttara) which will be completed within December 2019, Mayor Atiqul Islam said.
In reply to a question regarding mosquito control, the Mayor said, “We have a mega plan for the newly added outsourcing activities to address the mosquito menace.”
The corporation will also develop, and repair 161.72km roads, set up 222.82km drains, and develop 4.7km canals, and 5.10km elevated roads.
Besides, DNCC also plans to set up 11,224 LED lights on roads for the safety, and security of pedestrians.
After taking the responsibility- we have faced student movement over road safety, 26 deaths in FR tower fire incident, Gulshan kitchen market fire, and the dengue outbreak, the mayor mentioned.
