The government has cancelled the Eid vacation and weekly holidays of the officials of Dhaka north and south city corporations until further notice.
In a circular issued on Saturday, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) said the move was aimed at successfully carrying out anti-mosquito drives, reports UNB.
The order took immediate effect and it will remain in place until further notice.
Dhaka, the overcrowded Bangladeshi capital, is at the centre of dengue outbreak. The situation has worsened this year with hundreds of cases being reported every day.
In 24 hours till Friday morning, 1,687 new dengue patients were hospitalized.

Official data showed that 21,235 people were hospitalized with dengue since January 1. Of them, 18,842 patients were admitted to hospitals since July 2.
Currently, 6,582 patients, including children, are undergoing treatment at hospitals. Although the government says 14 dengue patients have so far died, unofficial estimates suggest the death toll is higher.
However, Health Minister Zahid Maleque, during a visit at BSMMU on Saturday noon, said the overall dengue situation in the country is somewhat under control now.
"There will not be any shortage of medicine as insecticides are being brought from abroad to control the dengue menace," he said.
Meanwhile, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, during a cleanliness campaign in Dhaka's Farmgate area on Saturday, said a monitoring cell will be formed, comprising Awami League leaders and expert physicians, to ensure that the best healthcare services are provided to dengue patients in the capital as well as district and upazila-levels.
