Police have handed over domestic help Khadija, who was earlier rescued from a Shantinagar flat in Dhaka, to her family.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Victim Support Centre’s Additional Deputy Commissioner Nusrat Jahan Mukta told Dhaka Tribune on Thursday that Khadija’s grandmother, Khud Banu, came to their office and Khadija was handed over to her.
On Tuesday noon, a video showing 17-year-old Khadija barely hanging on a sun-shade outside the veranda of an apartment of the 15-storey building, went viral on social media.
The police rescued the girl and sent her to the Victim Support Centre’s for her safe keeping.
Khadija’s grandmother Khud Banu, who came to Dhaka, told Dhaka Tribune that she used to live by herself in Sunamganj’s Chhatak Upazila.
Her other granddaughter Hasna, Khadija’s sister, came to Dhaka to work as a house help, but she now works in an organization.
Eventually, Hasna brought Khadija to Dhaka some 18 months ago to work as a house help.
DMP’s Assistant Commissioner (Ramna zone) Tanvir Hossain told Dhaka Tribune that they are investigating the matter.
Police will take appropriate steps after completing the investigation, he added.
