Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity has made 28 recommendations, including ban on unfit vehicles, to ensure a safe journey for holidaymakers during the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha.
The platform, in a press release signed by its Secretary General Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury, demanded the introduction of separate lanes for slow moving, and high-speed vehicles on highways on Sunday.
It also demanded the government to repair the highways affected by flood, ban on temporary cattle markets adjacent to the highways, and also to take steps to stop extortion from cattle carrying vehicles during Eid.
The other recommendations include: Ban on "nosimon-korimon" (locally-produced three-wheelers), easy-bikes, auto-rickshaws, battery and pedal run rickshaws, and motorcycles on highways; rationing vacations for garment workers and other industrial units; activation of all booths in toll plazas across the country's highways; usage of speed guns while monitoring vehicles using the wrong lane; stopping black market ticket sales; introduction of long term measures to deal with the crisis of public transport; not to check for documents of vehicles without specific complaints on the highways; control inflation of ticket prices; restrict non-motorized or goods laden vehicles from carrying passengers; and provide enough rest for the drivers to ease workload, etc.
