Separate stadium for cultural programmes on cards

Finance Minister AMA Muhith said a stadium will be built by the next fiscal year nearby Dhaka only for cultural events because organising such programmes at other venues like Army Stadium in Banani way too expensive. Muhith came up with the statement while talking to the Dhaka Tribune at his secretariat office on Thursday, after a meeting with a filmmaker. Replying to a query, he said the stadium will be on the outskirts of the capital city so that cultural enthusiasts and tourists may easily travel to the venue by bus. “We will fund the project from our budgetary allocation of the upcoming financial year,” Muhith said, adding, the government is looking for a piece of khas land for the establishment. The minister also said he will talk to Abul Khair Litu, chairman of Bengal Foundation, which has been organising a classical music festival at Army Stadium for last few years, in this regard.
