Do high-rise buildings in Dhaka have adequate firefighting capacity?

A writ has been filed with the High Court seeking its directives upon the concerned authorities to inform the court about fire suppression systems in high-rise buildings (eight storey or more) in Dhaka.

Barrister Sukla Sarwat Siraj, secretary general of Gulshan Society, filed the writ petition with the related section of the High Court on Sunday.

The writ petition also sought the court's directives to order the government to establish a fire station in the Gulshan area.

The High Court bench comprising Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir may hear the petition on Monday.

The writ comes in the wake of some recent fires in the capital, with a devastating fire in Banani's FR Tower on March 28 claiming the lives of 26 and injuring scores more.
