DMP fines Tk7 cr in September for violating traffic rules

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) fined Tk7 crore from the city dwellers on special traffic month in September, on charges of violating traffic rules across the city.

The DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia told this to Dhaka Tribune at a small gathering at Karwan Bazar intersection on Sunday morning.

Mentioning that DMP’s traffic division is working heart and soul to maintain discipline on transport movement, the DMP official said: "Everyone should obey the traffic rules. We fined, as well as impounded, a number of vehicles in one month. We are taking different measures to create awareness among people about the traffic rules."

"DMP set up bus-stop signs at 130 stoppages across the city. Peoples’ habits cannot be changed overnight. But we have succeeded in raising consciousness about traffic rules. Now, the numbers of helmetless bikers and riders has decreased."

Expressing gratitude towards Bangladesh National Cadet Corps, Rover Scouts, and Red Crescent Society volunteers, the commissioner said: "The young students helped us to maintain disciplines on the roads."

"We will do everything in our capacity to maintain discipline on the roads," the DMP chief said after offering flower bouquets to pedestrians and commuters.

The DMP's Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Mir Rezaul Alam was present at the gathering among other DMP high officials and members of Bangladesh National Cadet Corps, Rover Scouts, and Red Crescent Society.
