Aedes mosquito larvae were found in 45% houses of Dhanmondi, Kalabagan, Segun Bagicha and ministers' residential area in Minto Road and Hair Road under Zone-1 of the corporation, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon said.
However, the presence of Aedes larvae is very small in other DSCC zones, the mayor said while inaugurating a program titled “Aedes mosquito larvae detection and destruction”' at Kantalbagan slope in Dhaka’s Bir Uttam CR Datta road on Saturday.
The DSCC has taken the initiative in a bid to fight the spread of different diseases transmitted through mosquito, reports UNB.
Khokan said the city corporation employees destroyed mosquito larvae breeding ground visiting houses in every ward under the program that started on June 25.
A total of 19,542 houses were covered under the program, he added.
"We have taken the program again by giving importance to the larvae-prone areas including Dhanmondi, Kalabagan, Montripara and Segunbagicha as Aedes mosquito larvae were found in one of three houses in the areas," he said.
The mayor also called on other city corporations, municipalities and the union parishads around the capital to carry out similar programs simultaneously to destroy Aedes mosquito larvae.
