Govt announces bid for 142-storey Purbachal skyscraper construction

The government has decided to revoke the uncontested tender rights to construct the 142-storey Iconic Tower in Purbachal from KPC Group and to hold a tender instead. Officials of the Finance Ministry said that Finance Minister AMA Muhith had met with Kali Pradip Chaudhary, chairman of KPC Group and an expatriate Bangladeshi from Sylhet, on Tuesday afternoon. According to Finance Ministry sources, Rajuk objected to KPC Group getting the tender rights uncontested. Rajuk will hold the project tender later in the day, in which KPC Group will participate with other interested parties. After the meeting, Kali Pradip told the Dhaka Tribune that he is very enthusiastic about the project and looks forward to implementing it. Kali Prasad Chaudhary, chairman of KPC Global Dhaka Tribune“We are going to build that tower within five years, even if the designs change. “This project is special for me. I visited Bangladesh 28 times in the last three years when I had only visited three times in the past 35 years.” Kali Pradip also expressed his desire to set up a medical college in Sylhet. The KPC Group had been awarded uncontested rights to construct the Iconic Tower in September 2015. Founded by Kali Pradip Chaudhary, it is a diverse conglomerate specialising in healthcare – owning various hospital in the US and pharmaceutical companies – and construction with several projects around South Asia. The plans for the construction of the skyscraper Tower were approved by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in October 2016. Currently, the 88-storey Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia – which also has five extra storeys below ground – is the tallest building in South Asia. The construction of Iconic Tower in Purbachal would give Bangladesh the tallest building in South Asia.
