A 65-year-old woman died as she could not come out of her house which was allegedly torched by unidentified people at Nasirnagar of Brahmanbaria Wednesday evening.
Victim Niyoti Chakraborty used to live in a hut with her grandson at the house of Gopesh Majhi in Nasirpur area. Her grandson was not in the house when the fire erupted around 7pm.

After visiting the area, Superintendent of Police Md Mizanur Rahman said that the women had died in a fire originated from the cooking stove. “We are also assessing whether it was a subversive act,” he added.
Meanwhile, the house of Nasirnagar Upazila Vice-Chairman Anjan Kumar Deb was torched around 6:30pm Wednesday, for the second time since November 5.

The fire blazed a cattle shed at the house, amid tight security measures in the area since October 30, Anjan told the Dhaka Tribune.
The October 30 attacks left around 17 temples and Puja pavilions, and over 50 houses vandalised and over 100 injured. Six houses were burnt in the area on November 4 and another on November 13.

Some 3,000 radical Muslims took part in the series of violent attacks that were carried out in the Hindu localities of Nasirnagar on October 30 following a rally over an alleged defamatory post by an illiterate Hindu youth, Rasraj Das, on Facebook even though he had apologised to the Muslims the day before saying that his account had been hacked.

On Tuesday, rights activists, Hindu community members and Dhaka University students demonstrated at Shahbagh demanding justice for the communal attack victims. They also announced to observe a long-march programme for Friday to Nasirnagar if their six-point demands including the expulsion of local MP and Fisheries and Livestock Minister Md Sayedul Haque.
At least 75 people including leaders of the ruling Awami League and the BNP have been arrested in the cases filed over the October 30 attacks.
