The families of Jubo Dal leader Nur Alam and businessman Majedur Rashid Majed have alleged the two were picked up by law enforcers and have remained traceless since February 12 and 18 respectively.
In separate press conferences, the families sought the prime minister's support in finding them.
Nur is the general secretary of the Pallabi unit of the BNP's youth front. A group of people identifying themselves as police picked him up in the early hours of February 12 from the residence of a relative in Joydebpur of Gazipur.
A businessman by profession, Majed is also a nephew of BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas. He was allegedly abducted in the capital's Paltan area on February 18.
Majed's wife Ambia Khatun alleged when her husband was being picked up in front of the Bangladesh Commerce Bank building, police were present there.
She also alleged the police did not properly cooperate with her when she went to lodge a complaint.
“Paltan police station OC Morshed Alam misbehaved with me, and compelled me to stay in the police station one whole night,” Ambia said.
She suspects the members of the old managing committee of the Fakirerpul Jam-e-Mosque could be behind his disappearance, because Majed had earlier protested a misappropriation of funds.
She also said that police were yet to take any action against the suspects.
The Paltan OC however denied the allegations of misbehaviour and noncooperation brought against him.
OC Morshed said the family first filed a General Diary and then police filed a case based on primary investigation.
In another press conference at the Dhaka Reporter's Unity, Rina Alam, wife of Nur Alam, said: “People have called us up and told us names of various hospital morgues claiming that Alam's dead body was kept there. But we are yet to find any trace of him.”
Saying she was unclear about the motive behind the abduction, Rina urged the authorities to return her husband alive.
