While reinstating the High Court bail to ruling party lawmaker Abdur Rahman Bodi, the Appellate Division yesterday warned the MP about making derogatory remarks on ACC officials during any investigation against him.
The court also announced that the HC or any special court has right to cancel Bodi’s bail any time if he makes further unpleasant comment on the anti-corruption watchdog.
A four-member bench of Supreme Court headed by Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha declared reinstatement of the bail along with the warning.
ACC counsel Khorshid Alam said: “Bodi made derogatory comments about the commission and its chairman in a September 15 rally and we have placed the news in this regard before the court that has warned the MP from ruling Awami League.”
On September 11 and October 27, the HC granted a four-week and six-month anticipatory bail respectively to Bodi.
And on October 29, chamber judge of the SC’s Appellate Division rejected a plea of stay order by the ACC on the bail.
On August 21, ACC Assistant Director Md Abdus Sobhan filed three cases against Bodi and two other former state ministers with Ramna police station in the capital.
In February, the commission sought the wealth statement from Bodi, in which he stated that his family members own tangible and intangible assets worth above Tk5.20 crore.
On the contrary, his income tax return submitted in November, 2013 showed a volume of more than Tk16.06 crore of their their assets.
During the hearing, Abdul Matin Khashru and Nasrin Siddika Lina stood for Bodi.
