Some unidentified criminals shot at and injured a senior medical officer of Birdem Hospital at his own house in the capital’s Moghbazar area yesterday.
Victim Md Abu Naser Muhit, 34, was later admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Neighbour Ibrahim said Naser opened the door of his flat, on the first floor of the four-storey building at 356/c Madhubagh, after a youth aged around 25 knocked it about 6:45pm saying that he worked for the local cable operator.
Muhit found four masked men outside the door who stormed into the flat. As he resisted, one of the attackers shot him on the thigh and left the scene.
After hearing screams, neighbours came and rushed him to the DMCH around 8pm.
Ibrahim said Muhit had received a threat from goons seeking money in 2009 when he extended two floors of the building.
Ramna police said they would interrogate the locals on the matter and that process of filing of a case was under way.
