Police nabbed one of the top drug smugglers, also the head of some mugger-rings in Chittagong city, in Chittagong Medical College Hospital area early Tuesday.
Police also recovered five bottles of phensidyl from his possession, police said.
The arrestee, Alauddin Alo, 38, was in the custody of Panchlaish police station, said Abu Jafor Mohammad Omar Faruk, officer-in-charge of the station.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the station conducted a drive in the area around 1am and nabbed Alauddin, accused of several mugging and drugs cases lodged with the station, he said.
Alauddin had been controlling several mugger-rings in the port city, while he used to supply drugs, especially phensidyl, in Hamjarbag, Panchlaish, Muradpur, CMCH, Double Mooring and Agrabad areas in the port city.
“Earlier, Alauddin was arrested several times, however went out of jail and then again got involved in drug smuggling and mugging in the city,” the OC added.
