A youth has been detained for throwing acid on an eighth grade teenager in Lalpur upazila, Natore.
The arrested was identified as Shahin Reza, a diploma student from Rajshahi and son of Nurul Islam, cashier of North Bengal Sugar Mill.
The victim was identified as Anonya Airin Tonni. She was attending treatments at Lalpur Upazila Health Complex.
Tonni turned down Shahin's love proposal, Lalpur police station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Hai said. “Shahin used to tease her for quite some time.”
“Angry at the refusal, Shahin threw acid on Tonni on Tuesday night. He has been arrested around 4:30am after police received the information,” he said.
Preparation to file a case was underway until the time of filing this report.
