Police arrested an Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) in Lalmonirhat district on Tuesday for torturing his wife over dowry.
The arrested was advocate Ahshan Habib Sabuj, APP of the district Judge's Court.
According to police sources, Farhana Akter, of TushBhandar union council in Kaliganj upazila had been married off with Sabuj 18 years back.
After the marriage, Sabuj used to torture Farhana demanding dowry.
On June 13, she filed a case with Kaliganj police station against her husband over the issue.
Later, the police arrested the APP from his home and sent to jail.
When contacted, Farhana said she had lodged the case as she could not bear agony of the torture.
“My mental situation is not well at this moment, so phone me later,” she said.
The couple have a 15-year-old child.
Some lawyers of the court said Farhana had complained to the Lawyers' Association against Sabuj several times.
The association tried to meet up the problem of the couple.
Sub-Inspector Rashed of Kaliganj police station said Sabuj had been sent to jail after he was arrested in the case filed by her wife.
