A teacher has been beaten to death as he went to collect money from the borrowers at Rehaipukuria village under Chohali upazila in Sirajganj on Thursday night.
The deceased Abdul Harej, 60, son of late Abdul Hamid, was the former principal of Rehaipukuria Government Primary School.
Witness said there was a long-standing dispute over the matter between Abdul Harej and Iyahiya Mollah of nearby Jotpara village. On Thursday night, Harej went to get the money back from Iyahiya. But, Iyahia engaged in an altercation with him. At one point, Iyahiya started beating Harej, leaving him injured.
Later, Harej died on the way to the hospital around 11pm. Police could not recover the body as Iyahiya's family kept it inside their house, locals said.
Chohali police station Sub-Inspector Shamsul Haque said: “ We have heard about the incident. Manjur Rashid, son of the victim, came to the police station but did not file any complaints.
We will take decision in this regard after holding a meeting with the senior officials,” he added.
The police could not recover the body till filling the report around 1:30pm.
