Husband kills wife in capital

A husband has brutally killed his wife on Monday evening over an alleged extramarital affair at Meradia in capital’s Khilgaon.

Police have arrested Mohammad Manik Miah for killing his wife Parveen Akhter, 30.

Police and sources at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) said Parveen was killed as her husband Manik had hit on her head with bricks.

After killing wife, Manik himself also sustained injuries as he had also stabbed at different parts of his body.

Inspector Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Khilgaon police station, said the killing took place following an extramarital affair between Parveen and a local youth named Alauddin.

“The couple first locked into a quarrel when Manik found his wife at the house of Alauddin at Meradia at around 7pm and at one stage, Manik started hitting on the head of his wife with bricks leaving her a critical state.”

The locals rushed the woman to a local clinic, where the doctors declared her death and later the body was sent to DMCH morgue for autopsy.

The OC said they arrested Manik immediate after the murder and also admitted him to DMCH as he had stabbed himself.

Admitting the killing of his wife, Manik told journalists at the DMCH that they had been living at a house at Nondipara in Khilgaon along with their three children, but his wife got herself engaged in an extramarital affair with one Alauddin at Meradia.
