Red alert at Benapole to foil Nur's escape

The home ministry has issued a red alert at Benapole border in a bid to prevent Nur Hossain, the main accused in Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, from escaping the country.

Benapole port police have received a letter from the home ministry on Monday, said Apurba Hasan, officer in-charge of Benapole port police station.

Commanding officer of 26 Border Guard Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Matiur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune: “BGB men were kept on red alert at Benapole frontier and the BGB vigilances have been mounted along with the frontier.”

Jahangir Alam, officer in-charge, Benapole immigration police, said the passport holders have been taken under extra checking to prevent the fleeing of the “culprits of seven murders in Narayanganj.”

Nazrul Islam, his four associates, senior lawyer Chandan Sarkar and his driver were abducted on April 27 and their bodies were recovered from River Shitalakshya on April 29.

Nazrul's wife filed an abduction case against four people including Nur Hossain on April 28.
