Teenager beaten to death in capital

A teenage-boy has allegedly been beaten to death by two security guards in capital’s Uttara area on Friday morning.

The deceased Sujon Miah, 16, was an employee of a restaurant at sluice-gate area in Sector 10 and hailed from Hasanpur village in Gaibandha.

Witnesses said the security guards of a building tied him with rope and beat him up mercilessly suspecting him to be a thief.

Quoting the locals, Sujon's father Nesar Uddin said: “The security guards Nazrul and Abul Kashem intercepted the boy while he was on his way to his workplace, tied him up and started beating as per the order of the building owner Mohammad Hasem Ali, who is a land developer.

A ceiling fan was stolen from the under-construction building on Thursday night. They held Sujon suspecting them to be a thief in the morning while he was passing through the area,” he added.

Witnesses said the teenager died on the spot around 8am. Later, police recovered the body and arrested Abul Kashem and his wife Ambiya Khatun.

Officer-in-Charge of Uttara west police station Inspector Rafiqul Islam said: “We are trying to arrest the fugitive security guard Nazrul.”

The OC, however, did not reply to the query regarding the arrest of the building owner who is the brother-in-law of Awami League Uttara unit General Secretary Habib Hasan.
