Gold trader, brother freed after 17-hr

Plain-clothed people identifying themselves as law enforcers abducted them, wife claims

A gold trader and his brother, who were abducted early Monday, have been released by the kidnappers on Monday night.

Kaliakoir police station Officer-in-Charge Omar Faruk said: “The police have conducted a day-long drive to rescue them. Later, they were freed at at Chandra beside the Kaliakoir-Ashulia around 8:30pm.”

“Now the brothers are at the police station and their relatives have been informed. But, police is yet to arrest anyone in this connection.”

The brothers were abducted by a group identifying themselves as policemen in Kaliakoir upazila, Gazipur in the early hours of Monday.

The victims are Din Mohan Mondal, 50, son of Madhab Mohan Mondal from the upazila and a gold trader, and his brother Kedani Mohan Mondal.

Wife of the businessman, Purabi Rani Barman, said a group of at least 10 people, identifying themselves as Kaliakoir police, picked them up from Sutrapur residence around 3am.

“They came in on two private cars and a microbus and picked them up from Sutrapur residence around 3am.

They were all wearing plain clothes.” The police hey were all wearing plain clothes.” The police were notified in this regard, she said. “However, they said they knew nothing.”
