Volunteer organisation’s employee beaten to death

An employee of a volunteer organisation succumbed to his injuries in the morning hours of yesterday after he was beaten up by some local goons in the capital’s Bonoshree area on Thursday evening.

Ruhul Aminn Khan, 50, joint secretary of the volunteer service organisation Dakshin Bangla Ekota Songha, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital around 5am. He was living with his family in South Bonoshree.

Quoting family members, police said Ruhul had been killed over a financial dispute with some people from his previous work place, Fatema Foundation.

Assistant Organising Secretary of Dakshin Bangla Ekota Songha Mohammad Rasel said: “Rahul had defaulted on an amount of money at his earlier work place, Fatema Foundation. Some people from that organisation beat him up after an altercation at our office around 7pm.”

“A group of people of the Fatema Foundation stormed into the office of Dakkhin Bangla Ekota Songha and beat him up mercilessly, causing his death,” he said.

Police have detained two of people in this regard. One of the arrested was identified as Ashiq, said Rasel.

Ruhul’s brother-in-law Kamal Hossain said: “Some 12 people, including Alauddin, Tawhid and Salauddin, attacked Ruhul Amin when he was at his office.”
