Police yesterday arrested wife of Kishoreganj bank burglary mastermind Sohel from the capital’s Jatrabari area with Tk2.5 lakh.
Mahila Aktar, 27, wife of Sohel alias Yusuf Munshi was detained by a team of police led by Abdul Malek, investigation officer of the case and also the officer-in-charge of Kishoreganj police station, around 4:45pm.
OC Abdul Malek confirmed the news of the arrest. Police recovered Tk2.5 lakh more from a house from the old part of the capital.
Abdul Malek, officer-in-charge of Kishoreganj police station and investigator of the case, said they picked up Mahila Akter for interrogation. The official said Mahila, second wife of Yusuf, stayed with him during the Tk16.40 crore heist.
He said they recovered the money from a house on the fifth floor of a six-storey building in Kadamtoli around 4:15pm.
Yusuf, the 37-year-old man, digging a tunnel between his rented house and the main branch of Sonali Bank in the district, committed the robbery.
Earlier on January 28, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) personnel arrested Yusuf Munshi and his brother Idris Munshi with Tk16.19 crore from a flat that Yusuf rented in the capital’s Shyampur two days after the robbery.
Police identified Habibur Rahman alias Sohel as Yusuf Munshi and Idris Mia as Idris Munshi. Both are siblings.
The architect of the cinematic Kishoreganj bank burglary and his aide were arrested with the stolen money in the capital’s Shyampur Balurmath area on Tuesday.
