Tahsif murder case: Disha sent to jail after remand

Jerika Tasnim Disha, a friend of former air force officer Tahsif Sauri, was sent to jail on Friday after completing two rounds of remand in a murder case filed over his death.

Investigation Officer Inspector Firoz Uddin of the Tongi River Police Outpost produced Disha before the court and sought her detention in jail, saying she had provided important information during questioning.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid ordered her to be sent to jail. Prosecution Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam confirmed the development, adding that no bail petition had been filed on her behalf.

In the detention petition, the investigation officer said Disha had told investigators that she went to Nest Bar and Restaurant in Uttara with Tahsif on the night of October 27. She also said they had visited CP Five Star Snacks several times that evening and travelled together on Tahsif’s motorcycle.

The officer said Disha had provided several important details about the incident, which were being kept confidential pending verification. However, she allegedly avoided answering several questions and remained silent during parts of the interrogation.

Investigators also cross-checked her statements with those of another suspect, Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dip, who is currently on remand. A review of Tahsif’s phone records also showed that he had spoken to Disha several times, the petition said.

The investigation has so far found preliminary evidence suggesting Disha’s involvement, the officer said, adding that further investigation was underway. He argued that she needed to remain in custody to prevent her from fleeing or obstructing the investigation.

Disha was arrested in the Kafrul area last Saturday. A court initially placed her on a four-day remand on Sunday and granted a further three days on Wednesday.

Dip has also been questioned in several rounds of remand.

Tahsif’s body was recovered by river police from the Rajabari Ghat area of the Turag River on the afternoon of October 28. He had left home on his motorcycle on the evening of October 27 after being called by Dip.

Dip was arrested after Tahsif’s father filed a murder case on the night of October 30. Police later recovered Tahsif’s motorcycle from the Mazar slum area of Tongi, based on information provided by Dip.
