A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on Faisal Karim Masud, the main accused in the murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, and his wife, Shaheda Parveen Samia, who is also detained in an Indian jail in connection with a corruption case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir issued the order on Monday following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC Public Relations Officer Akhtarul Islam confirmed the matter.
ACC Assistant Director Md Saifur Rahman filed the application seeking the travel ban.
The application said an investigation is underway into allegations involving transactions worth Tk127 crore in bank accounts linked to Faisal Karim and his associates.
During the investigation, the ACC received information that those involved in the allegations could flee the country, making it necessary to restrict their overseas travel to ensure a fair investigation, the application said.
Faisal Karim and Shaheda Parveen Samia are currently detained in India.
On March 8, Indian West Bengal Police and the Special Task Force (STF) arrested Faisal from the Bangaon border area. He has remained in custody in India since then.
