Three members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) were injured in an attack by a group of assailants in the Boalia Khal area of Narayanganj city on Tuesday.
Narayanganj Additional Superintendent of Police Md Hasinuzzaman said the incident took place in Ward-14 of the city. The injured were rescued and taken to different hospitals.
The injured RAB members were identified as Ibrahim, Mahi and Najibul. Of them, Najibul was critically injured and shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, while the other two are undergoing treatment at Narayanganj General Hospital.
According to local sources, five to six members of RAB-11 went to the Boalia Khal area around noon to collect information. At that time, they were chased and attacked with sharp weapons by a group of assailants, leaving three personnel seriously injured. They were first taken to Narayanganj General (Victoria) Hospital, and later one was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
RAB-11 Commanding Officer Lt Col HM Sajjad Hossain said, “Three RAB members have been injured. Further details will be provided later.”
Fatullah Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Mahbub Alam said, “Three RAB members were injured in the attack. One of them was sent to Dhaka in critical condition, while the other two are being treated in Narayanganj.”
The Additional Superintendent of Police said RAB personnel were collecting information on narcotics in plainclothes when they came under attack after being suspected by the assailants. Several of the injured sustained head injuries.
He added that an investigation is underway and drives are ongoing to arrest those involved.
