Police have recovered the body of a 27-year-old woman from a rented house in the Kalachandpur area of Gulshan in Dhaka, with her throat slit.
The deceased was identified as Sadia Akhter Mim. Her body was recovered from a house in Kalachandpur Paschim Para on Saturday night.
Confirming the incident, Gulshan Police Station Sub-Inspector Mofizul Islam said police reached the spot around 1am after receiving information and recovered the body.
Police suspect the murder may have stemmed from prior enmity.
Her elder sister, Shahida, filed a murder case (Case No 37) at Gulshan Police Station against unidentified suspects.
Mim, who worked as a dancer at a bar and ran a beauty parlour, lived with her roommate Nusrat, who has been detained for questioning.
SI Maruf Ahmed said the body showed multiple sharp-weapon injuries on the face, head, and other parts of the body, though the weapon has not yet been recovered. Police are examining her phone records to identify the killer.
According to the family, Mim last spoke to them on Friday morning. When she did not return home, her sister found the house locked on Saturday night and, with the landlord’s help, discovered her body.
Mim is survived by a five-year-old daughter, Maria, from her first marriage. Her body was sent for autopsy at Dhaka Medical College before being taken to her ancestral home in Dhanbari, Tangail, for burial.
