A joint team of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the army detained three individuals from Dhaka’s Uttara and Dakshinkhan areas on Friday night for allegedly spreading a bomb-related rumor at the air traffic control of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
At a press briefing held at the RAB Media Centre in Kawran Bazar at 11:30am on Saturday, RAB Director General and Additional Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidur Rahman shared these details.
The detainees are Imon, his wife Tahmina, and his mother Rasheda Begum.
AKM Shahidul Rahman said that on Friday afternoon, a female voice informed the airport control room that a Kathmandu-bound flight from Dhaka might contain an explosive device. The aircraft was halted and searched, but nothing was found.
Following this, RAB officials traced the phone call and, based on the number, conducted a joint raid in the Dakshinkhan and Uttara areas, detaining the three individuals now in RAB custody.
He stated that spreading such false and panic-inducing information without reason is a serious offense. Appropriate legal action will be taken against the detainees after interrogation.
