The leaders of a local organisation at a press conference yesterday (July 31) alleged that eligible candidates were failing to get jobs, as they could not bribe a section of dishonest Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) officials.
"There is no chance of getting a job without providing bribes to the dishonest officials of CPA," said Nur Mohammed Khan, president of the Council to Protect the Interest of the Victims of Land Acquisition by the Port, while addressing the conference at Chittagong Press Club.
He said there was a provision to provide jobs to the victims of land acquisition. However, as a result of their inability to pay bribes, none of the victims received a job.
"There was no transparency in the activities of the recruitment committees of the port," he added.
He also said in a recent recruitment process of the security department of CPA many of the candidates had not gotten jobs even after being physically fit and qualifying the viva examination.
The organisation placed a 13-point demand and threatened to lay siege to the port if their demands are not met after 30 days. Organisation leaders Siddiqul Islam, Jahangir Alam and Shah Alam, among others, were present at the press conference.
