Police cordon off suspected militant den in Netrakona

Police have cordoned off a house suspected to be a militant hideout in Bhashapara village of Netrakona Sadar Upazila.

The house of retired engineer Dr Abdul Mannan was surrounded since 1pm on Saturday.

Police primarily claim that there are weapons and bombs used for militant training in that house.

In the meantime, the police conducted an initial search around 1:30pm.

At this time, an Indian pistol, 17 rounds of bullets, a dummy AK 47 gun were recovered.

Police suspected that there may be more bombs inside the house.

 A bomb disposal unit has already arrived from Mymensingh. The house will be raided later.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Netrokona Model police station Abul Kalam, confirmed the matter.

Netrakona Superintendent of Police Md Faiz Ahmad visited the spot around 5:30pm.

Later, he told reporters: "We think the house is a militant hideout. Militants are trained here. The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit and the Bomb Disposal Unit have been informed. When they come, the house will be searched."

Asadullah Chowdhury, additional inspector general of police of the Anti-terrorism unit of Mymensingh division, said that the incident site has been inspected.

Police also located a sound-proof room in the house.

The expert teams of the CTTC and SWAT units have been informed.

Talking to the locals, it is known that the owner of that house is the retired engineer Dr Abdul Mannan. He lives in Gazipur. Two years ago the house was rented out to a person named Arif. However, the police did not find him at home.
