State Minister’s iPhone recovered from Malaysia

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has recovered State Minister for Religious Affairs Md Faridul Haque's iPhone from Malaysia, nearly a month and a half after its theft. 

Additional Commissioner Harunor Rashid said this in a press conference at the DB office on Minto Road in the capital on Wednesday.

He said: “On April 30, the mobile phone was stolen from the state minister’s pocket while performing a namaz-e-janaza in Jamalpur. He registered a general diary (GD) for this incident.

“Since then, the Cyber ​​Crime and Investigation (North) started working to recover the state minister's mobile phone. After a long investigation, the iPhone was recovered from Malaysia.” he added.

The DB chief said: “Nine people, including a gang leader, were arrested in the case of phone theft. Gang members target large gatherings, and funerals to steal. Zakir Hossain, 40, who led this gang, was arrested.

“The gang members used to submit the stolen phones to Zakir. Zakir then sends expensive mobiles to gang members abroad, especially in Malaysia, India and Dubai. To send abroad, it was first sent to the members of the circle in Riazuddin Market of Chittagong. Later, from there, it was smuggled to different countries by courier,” he added.
