BNP blockade: Cocktail hurled at police car in Uttara

A cocktail was hurled at a police patrol car in Uttara Housing Building area of the capital on Sunday, the first day of BNP’s 48-hour blockade.

Three policemen including Uttara West Police Station Sub Inspector (SI) Mahbub Ali were injured in the blast.

One of the crude bombs exploded upon impact.

Confirming the incident, Inspector (Operations) Partha Pratim Brahmachari of Uttara West Police Station, said miscreants threw two crude bombs targeting a police vehicle that was deployed in the area to tackle any untoward situation.

The unexploded crude bomb was recovered from the spot, he added.

Later, the law enforcers chased and detained a man named Gazi Mohammad Hasan for his alleged involvement in the cocktail-throwing incident. He is the former vice-president of Gazipur Mahanagar Chhatra Dal.

Uttara West police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masud Alam said: “One person has been held in connection with the cocktail incident. It is initially known that he is the former leader of Chhatra Dal. He is being interrogated in police custody.”

Picketing and arson violence were reported across the capital since this morning amid the road, rail and waterways blockade for 48 hours called by BNP, Jamaat and like-minded opposition parties across the country.
