Farhad Mazhar quizzed again

Detective Branch (DB) of police quizzed poet and columnist Farhad Mazhar, who had gone missing from Dhaka on July 3 and was rescued in Khulna the same day, for a second time in its office in Dhaka on Tuesday. He was interrogated again as investigators found discrepancies between his earlier statement and their findings, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman. Farida Akhter, wife of Farhad, said: “DB police called us at their office for an interrogation, and we went there at 11am accordingly.  They   wanted to know many things from us, and we told them what we knew.” On July 3, Farhad went missing in the morning after he got out of his house to buy some medicine. He called his wife Farida around 9:30am and said he had been abducted and the abductors were demanding Tk35 lakh for his release. Law enforcers later rescued him from a Dhaka-bound Hanif Paribahan bus at Abhaynagar upazila in Jessore the same day at 11:30pm. He was taken to the DB office after he returned to Dhaka. After a primary interrogation, police took him to a court to record his statement. The court later allowed him to return home following his plea. The story was first published on the Bangla Tribune.
