The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has solved a 2-year-old murder case that seemed all but dead, making adept use of technology.
Amir Hossain murdered his wife Parul Akter, 26, two years ago and dumped her body into the Jamuna river, so that it would not be found.
The plan initially worked well because the body floated to Jamalpur - far from Kazipur police station in Sirajganj, where Parul’s father Madhu Sheikh filed a case petition on June 20, 2018 for his missing daughter.
The police in Sirajganj failed to make any progress since Parul could not be found.
Meanwhile, the body of an unidentified woman was found at Kulpar Char under Sorishabari police station of Jamalpur district shortly after Parul’s disappearance.
Although post mortem revealed that she was murdered, Jamalpur police failed to make any progress since no such case was filed in that district.
After a few months, the case was eventually transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) by Police Headquarters.
Jamalpur CID started by trying to identify the victim, said S. M. Monsur Musa, Assistant Superintendent Police of CID, Jamalpur.
With the help of the DNA Bank, the investigation team matched the DNA of the dead body with probable parents.
“The CID finally found a match, confirming that the body belonged to Parul Akter, the daughter of Modhu Sheik, Tekani, Kazipur, Sirajganj,” said Musa.
“Upon further investigation, CID identified the victim’s husband Amir Hossain as the culprit and arrested him from Gazipur on June 22, 2020.”
“The murderer confessed before the court under section 164 that he murdered his wife due to suspecting her involvement in extra-marital affairs,” he added.
