Police recovered the body of a woman from a fish enclosure in Phultala village underBagerhatsadar upazila on Monday.
The deceased, 38-year-old Narjina Begum, from East Karapara village, was hacked to death by unknown assailants, police said.
However, her husband Mohammad Ali Sheikh alleged that she had been abducted and killed by the couple’s neighbours, with whom they had had a long-standing dispute on land ownership.
Bagerhat Sadar Model police station OC Md Mahatab Uddin said Narjina went missing on late Sunday night, when she stepped out of her house to go to the bathroom.
On Monday, at around 10am, her body was seen floating insidea fish enclosure owned by Ashikur Rahman, resident of Phutala village, about 300-400 yards from East Karapara village.
Seeing her body, locals informed police, who went and collected the body. Later, her husband was identified her.
Police said there was a wound made by a sharp weapon on the right side of her neck.
Mohammad Ali Sheikh said he suspected that his rivals might have killed her due to the land dispute.
OC Mahatab said Narjina’s body had been sent to a local hospital for an autopsy.
No one has been arrested regarding this incident. Police have launched an investigation to find out what happened.
