Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested two suspected members of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) from Banani in Dhaka, foiling an alleged plot to kill actor and producer Khijir Hayat Khan.

The arrestees are: Md Emdadul Islam, 30, and Abu Bakar alias Fahim Abdullah, 20.

Police said Emdadul also went by a number of aliases including Mehedi Hasan, Sabuj, Abu Salman, and Hujaifa.

According to theDMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman, acting on a tip-off, a CTTC team conducted a drive, in front of an under-construction building on Road-25 in Banani around 3:45pm, on Tuesday and arrested the duo, reports UNB.

During a preliminary interrogation, the arrestees reportedly revealed that they are active ABT members and had hatched a plot to kill Khijir Hayat Khan.

Abu Bakar had already taken photographs of the actor’s village home in Comilla as part of the plan, said the DMP official.

They confessed that they had planned to kill Khijir Hayat as his recent film 'Mr Bangladesh', is an anti-militancy movie.

They had also opened a Telegram account named 'Esho Kafela Boddha Hoi' and exchanged information amongst the members about the plot to kill Khijir, disclosed Masudur Rahman.

Meanwhile, the arrestees were put on a three-day remand on Tuesday for further interrogation.
