Man arrested with bullets at Dhaka airport

A man was arrested at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Tuesday after airport security found six rounds of bullets in his carry-on luggage. The detainee, Abul Hossain Miah, 56, was later shown arrested and sent to court, said Sub-Inspector Abu Sayeed of Airport police station. The sub-inspector said Abul was about to board the BG 701 flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines to Kathmandu, Nepal, when six rounds of bullets were found in his bag during security scan. The security detained Abul, and on Wednesday morning, a general diary was filed against him. Later police showed him arrested under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and sent him to court. The sub-inspector said Abul claimed that he had a licensed firearm and the bullets were for that firearm, and he had a receipt for them. However, he could not produce any such document when the airport authorities asked for it. Police are now investigating his claim, Sayeed added. It is to be noted that other than the security personnel, no one is allowed to carry firearms and ammunition inside the airport premises. This article was first published on Bangla Tribune
