Narayanganj court police SI Kawser Ahmed confirmed it to the Dhaka Tribune, saying he had sent the summon notice to OC Asaduzzaman and SI Amir Hamza on Thursday afternoon.
Judicial Magistrate Mehedi Hasan ordered the two to appear before his court on November 1 with a proper explanation of the incident.
Court sources said one Haris Mollah's motorcycle was stolen from Don Chamber area of the town on September 26 and he filed a case with Sadar police station against unnamed bike thieves.
On October 22, police arrested 25-year-old Imrul Hasan Imran in relation to the bike theft and he was put on a single-day remand in the case as well. During the interrogation, its IO Amir Hamza allegedly burned the man's genitals with a lit cigarette and hit him on the buttocks with a cane until he bled.
Later, police produced Imran before Mehedi Hasan's court with an appeal to record his confessional statement in the incident.
During the court proceedings, Imran burst out crying and showed injury marks to the judge who instantly summoned the OC and the IO asking them to explain the alleged torture.
When contacted, SI Amir Hamza denied the allegation of torture on Imran.
