Chamber court stays Dr Enamur’s bail in five cases

The Appellate Division’s chamber court has stayed the High Court’s bail order for former state minister Dr Enamur Rahman in five cases.

Chamber Judge Justice Md Rezaul Haque passed the order on Sunday after hearing an application filed by the state.

The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Dr Enamur in Dhaka on January 26, 2025. The following day, a court granted police six days to question him in custody in a murder case filed with Mirpur Police Station.

On February 18, 2025, police produced him before a court in connection with the murder of Md Hridoy in a case filed with Savar Police Station and sought seven days of remand for interrogation. The defence opposed the plea and sought bail. After hearing both sides, the court granted four days of remand.

Enamur was subsequently shown arrested in several other cases. He later sought bail from the High Court, which granted him bail in five cases. The state then moved the Appellate Division seeking a stay on the bail order.

Enamur was elected MP from the Dhaka-19 (Savar) constituency on an Awami League ticket in the 10th and 11th parliamentary elections. He was sworn in as state minister in January 2019.

He contested the 12th parliamentary election as an Awami League candidate but lost to independent candidate Muhammad Saiful Islam.
