A Dhaka court on Thursday deferred the submission of the investigation report in the murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi until July 22.
With the latest postponement, the report submission date has now been deferred 127 times.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam set the new date after the investigating agency, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), failed to submit the report on the scheduled day.
The development was confirmed by Rafiqul Islam, a sub-inspector of the prosecution department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Sagar, news editor of Maasranga Television, and Runi, a senior correspondent at ATN Bangla, were found murdered at their rented apartment in West Rajabazar, Dhaka, on February 11, 2012.
Following the incident, Runi's brother, Nausher Alam Roman, filed a murder case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
The accused in the case are Rafiqul Islam, Bakul Mia, Masum Mintu, Kamrul Islam alias Arun, Abu Sayeed, two security guards of the building—Palash Rudra Pal and Enayet Ahmed—and their associate, Tanvir Rahman Khan. Tanvir and Palash are currently out on bail, while the others remain in jail.
The couple's four-and-a-half-year-old son was at home during the incident.
The investigation was initially conducted by Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station before being transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and later to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
On September 30 last year, the High Court removed RAB from the investigation and ordered that the case be investigated by a high-powered task force formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The order was issued by a High Court bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam.
In compliance with the court order, the government formed a four-member task force on October 23 last year, headed by the chief of the PBI.
