High Court orders preservation of ballots for Mymensingh-4 seat

The High Court on Monday accepted for hearing a petition filed by Jamaat candidate Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan challenging the election result of the Mymensingh-4 constituency in the 13th National Parliament election.

The court also ordered the preservation of ballots and related materials of the constituency.

The order was passed by a single High Court bench led by Justice Mohammad Ali.

BNP candidate Md Abu Wahab Akanda Wahid had won the seat.

Earlier, more than 35 candidates had filed petitions with the High Court. The court accepted the petitions for hearing and ordered the preservation of ballots and related materials of those constituencies.

According to Section 49 of the Representation of the People Order, election tribunals are formed in the High Court to hear election petitions against electoral irregularities.
