Khairul Haque gets HC bail in ACC case, no bar to release

The High Court has granted bail to former chief justice ABM Khairul Haque in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over allegations of illegally acquiring a plot from Rajuk.

Following the order, his lawyers said there is now no legal bar to his release.

A High Court bench comprising Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Justice Md Zakir Hossain passed the order on Wednesday after hearing his bail petition.

Senior lawyer Mansurul Haque Chowdhury, Advocate Motahar Hossain Saju and Barrister Mostafizur Rahman Khan represented Khairul Haque in court.

In August 2025, the ACC filed the case accusing the former chief justice of illegally obtaining a plot from Rajuk.

Eight people, including Khairul Haque, were named as accused in the case. The others include former Rajuk chairman Md Nurul Huda, former member (finance) and member (estate) AEM Golam Kibria, former member (finance) Md Abu Bakkar Sikder, former member (planning) Md Anwarul Islam Sikder, former member (estate) Akhtar Hossain Bhuiyan, former joint secretary and member (development) M Mahbubul Alam, and member (administration and land) Nazmul Hai.

Earlier, the High Court granted Khairul Haque bail in four other cases, including those related to the killing of Jubo Dal activists during the July movement and allegations of forging the caretaker government verdict.

On July 24, 2025, police arrested Khairul Haque from his residence in Dhanmondi. He was later shown arrested in a case over the killing of Jubo Dal activist Abdul Qayyum Ahad in Jatrabari during the July movement.

Apart from the ACC case, four other cases were filed against him.

One of them was filed on August 27 by Supreme Court lawyer Mujahidul Islam Shaheen with Shahbagh Police Station, alleging forgery in the verdict related to the caretaker government system.

Two similar cases were filed on August 25 in Fatulla Police Station and Bandar Police Station.

Earlier, on August 4, the ACC also filed a separate case against him over alleged corruption related to plot allocation.
