A Dhaka court has granted a three-day remand to Enam Hamim, who was arrested from in front of the BNP’s Gulshan office, in a case of fraud and forgery.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order on Monday. The investigating officer had sought a seven-day remand. Later, the court granted three days.

At around 3:40am on Sunday night, Enam Hamim was detained from in front of the BNP office on Road-86 in Gulshan. The Chairperson Security Force (CSF) questioned Enam Hamim. Later, upon receiving information, police arrived at the spot. During police questioning, he spoke incoherently. After that, a body search was conducted and three national identity cards and five cheque books of different banks were recovered. Later, police took him to the police station.

Later, police filed a case against him on charges of fraud and forgery. The investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Sheikh Saiful Islam of Gulshan Police Station, produced him before the court seeking a seven-day remand.

During the hearing, state prosecutor Muhammad Shamsuddoha Suman placed arguments in favor of the remand. On behalf of the accused, Advocate Md Asaduzzaman sought cancellation of the remand and applied for bail. He claimed that Enam Hamim had gone there to see Tarique Rahman.

The application stated that during interrogation and preliminary inquiry, it was learned that the accused, with dishonest intent, had forged (fake) multiple national identity cards to commit fraud and was roaming in the area with the intention of committing cognizable offences.

Centring on the upcoming 13th national election, the accused was suspiciously roaming in the area with the intention of sabotage, as preliminarily evident. He is suspected of being involved in activities against the election.

Besides, the arrestee was carrying three national identity cards using his own photograph, which is suspected could be used at any time for anti-state activities.
