Man beaten to death in Old Dhaka: Accused Gazi placed on 5-day remand

A Dhaka court has placed Md Titon Gazi, one of the accused in the brutal killing of scrap dealer Lal Chand alias Sohag, 39, on a five-day remand.

Sohag was publicly beaten and hacked to death in Old Dhaka.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Gias issued the order on Saturday afternoon, following a hearing.

Titon is listed as the ninth accused in the case’s First Information Report (FIR).

Prior to the court’s decision, the investigation officer, Inspector Md Nasir Uddin of Kotwali police station, presented the accused before the court and sought a seven-day remand for interrogation. The court granted five days.

According to the remand plea, Titon Gazi was directly involved in the incident. He is known to have ties with other accused individuals.

Interrogation in remand is deemed necessary to uncover the full identities and addresses of the named suspects, as well as to identify those listed as unknown in the FIR.

Investigators also hope to gather information about the planning and preparation behind the attack and recover the weapons used in the murder.
