The High Court has suspended the investigation proceedings against the photographer Dr Shahidul Alam in the Information and Communication Technology Act case.
At the same time, the court issued a ruling seeking to know why the case filed against him under the Information and Communication Technology Act should not be quashed.
The High Court bench led by Justice Md Iqbal Kabir gave this order after hearing the application on Monday.
Barrister Sara Hossain heard on behalf of Shahidul Alam in the court.
Before this, on November 3, 2023, the Appellate Division dismissed the leave to appeal against the dismissal of the ruling on the validity of the investigation proceedings in the Information and Communication Technology Act case filed against photographer Dr Shahidul Alam.
As a result, the lawyers said that there was no obstacle to the investigation against him. The Appellate Division headed by the then chief justice Hasan Foez Siddique gave this order.
On August 12, 2018, the court ordered photographer Shahidul Alam to be sent to jail in the Information and Communication Technology Act case.
A case was filed against Shahidul Alam at Ramna police station on August 6 of that year.
According to the complaint, the accused Shahidul Alam was running fanciful misinformation in different national and international media through his Facebook timeline. Through this, various sections of the public have been incited by presenting false information based on hearsay, which is detrimental to the state.
He presented the government as questionable and ineffective in the international arena. Shahidul reportedly conspired to spread fear among the public along with the deterioration of the law and order situation and propagated through electronic media for its implementation.
