Ex-DC Mashiur Rahman placed on 7-day remand

A Dhaka court has granted a seven-day remand for Mashiur Rahman, the former deputy commissioner of the Detective Branch (Lalbagh Division) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, in connection with the killing of a teenager Abdul Motalib during the uprising.

The investigating officer of the case, Inspector Nazrul Islam of the Ramna Zonal Team, presented the accused before the court and requested a 10-day remand.

After the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farzana Shakila Sumu Chowdhury approved the seven-day remand.

On the same day, the defence lawyer filed a petition seeking the cancellation of the remand and requested bail. The prosecution opposed the bail request. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court denied the bail plea and granted the seven-day remand.

On the night of September 19, Mashiur Rahman was arrested by the DB police from the capital. On September 20, the court granted a seven-day remand in a case involving the murder of businessman Abdul Wadud in the New Market area.

On August 4, Abdul Motalib, who was taking part in a procession during the anti-discrimination student movement in Dhanmondi's Zigatola bus stand, was shot dead.

On August 26, his father Abdul Matin filed a murder case with the Dhanmondi police station.

A total of 176 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former road transport and bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, were accused in the case.
