A Dhaka court has granted bail to 2,350 people arrested in cases filed with different police stations in the capital on charges of sabotage centring on the quota reform movement.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court granted them bail on Tuesday.
The accused include leaders and activists of BNP, Jamaat, Shibir and its front organizations, opposition leaders and activists and students.
According to court sources, the president ordered the release of those detained in various cases from July 1 to Monday.
Later, the lawyers of the accused appealed for bail and the court granted it.
However, many did not have a personal lawyer and Legal Aid cooperated with the bail.
Among those granted bail are - BNP standing committee members Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Andaleeve Rahman Partho of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP), Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur , Asif Mahtab, a former teacher of Brac University.
